Do you want to improve your writing? Reach a public audience? Are you interested in exploring issues of race, class, and gender? This course encourages students of all majors to produce a diversity of short genre pieces inspired by contemporary American drama. The writing assignments draw inspiration from Pulitzer Prize winning plays—including TopDog/UnderDog and The Piano Lesson. We will attend local productions at Tucson’s nationally acclaimed The Rogue Theatre and invite directors and actors to class. Reading, discussing, and experiencing the plays live will inspire the students’ writings intended for public audiences.
