This honors colloquium will focus on contemporary and historical issues in biomedical ethics as they relate to health laws and policies and medical treatments. Topics that will be discussed include: COVID-19, public health, insurance, vaccination policies, health care costs and disparities, aging and end of life care and choices, mental health challenges in college, opioid addiction in America, and gene therapy. Class sessions will discuss articles in recent publications, as appropriate for the topic. Students will participate in debates and role playing, discuss case studies, give presentations, discuss assigned readings, and do some short writing assignments. There will be eight class sessions. Credit Hours: One hour of Honors credit. No books need to be purchased for this course. No Exams in this course. No GE.
