This beginner-friendly course introduces students to a variety of ways that mapping can be used as a method in the social sciences, humanities, and arts. We will examine a wide variety of maps that range from those employing more conventional, grid-based spatial frameworks to maps that explore subjective, imaginary, and internal spaces. We will be engaging in hands-on exercises designed to help us critically explore mapping as a method for evoking relationships between place, lived experience, and community.
