HNRS 195H-004: SCAMMED: An Exploration Psychology and Science of Social Control Across Multiple Media and Environmental Domains

This course is designed to introduce students to the psychological components of social control used in media, marketing, and social media and how this is used to manipulate our views of what we care about. Through the use of research, videos, and discussion we will explore the socially engineered world we reside in. Students will be introduced to early experiments such as the Milgram experiment and the Stanford Prison Experiment, the use of psychology in marketing and modern Research on AI and social media. Upon completing the course students will be able to describe, discuss, categorize and appraise how our understanding of human psychology is used in different media modalities.
