AI is already changing almost every part of our lives. The future will certainly bring more changes. This seminar will explore the use of AI in many sectors, including banking, policing, medicine, addressing domestic violence, transportation (autonomous vehicles), academic research, military and security. It will highlight possible biases and ethical challenges, both now and in the future. No technical background in mathematics or coding is expected or needed. The seminar will develop a non-technical understanding of how machine learning and large language models work. This understanding will illuminate how algorithms can produce biased results and how large language models can hallucinate.
