The course will explore the fundamentals of innovation and human agency. Emphasis will be on knowledge, skills, perspectives, and strategies for developing students’ capacities to serve as change agents – both in their professional and civic lives. Countering popular notions of the heroic innovator, the seminar will approach innovation through a lens of the everyday. In doing so, innovation will be (re)framed as an iterative process that develops through routines of creativity, experimentation, persistence, trial and error, etc. Rather than focusing on the characteristics and successes of high profile innovators, students will be empowered to view themselves as emergent innovators through self-exploration, guided reflection, and auto ethnographic research and storytelling.
