We read Dante's "Inferno" and try to find reminiscences of it in contemporary US culture. Dante's "Inferno" is a touchstone of Western Culture, and has had a significant impact on the arts, literatures, and culture of Europe, not simply Italy. At the same time, we discuss its ethical dimension: in what way(s)are Dante's moral teachings still relevant in today's society? For instance, Dante lived in a time of great socio-economic change, when a booming economy brought about challenges to the traditional moral teachings. Does that sound familiar? So while much has changed in the 700 years since Dante wrote his work, much of his perspective remains relevant when dealing with today's society.
