We Celebrate! Martin Luther King Day
On Monday, January 15, 2024, we commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. As this is his actual birthday, it makes the day even more special as we remember his role in the fight for freedom, civil rights, and equality for all people.
In the spirit of Dr. King, this is a time for us to activate the W.A. Franke Honors College values: We Seek. We Connect. We Create. We Evolve. We Celebrate. We encourage our students to seek opportunities to learn more about Dr. King and the history of his work and the impact it has had on our country and community. Connect with others to learn and experience new things. Create new experiences that will bring new ways to express information and ideas. Evolve and grow by doing things that may be new or uncomfortable with the hope that it will strengthen individual growth. And celebrate the successes.
Take some time to think about how you can give back to the community. Because Dr. King was a person of action, we encourage you to make time to serve, not only on January 15th, but every day. In the spirit of Dr. King’s family, they hope that the holiday is a day on, not a day off. Do what you can.
"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
