Fully Online
Students will be introduced to the roles of modeling and of statistics in science by doing an original research project on collective behavior, using individual-based simulations. We will choose an overall theme for our group research project within the area of collective behavior in social insects (i.e. in the realm of expertise of the instructor and feasible to tackle with the tools available). Students will then learn to program a simulation model, identify are search question and appropriate analyses, and be mentored through writing up their results. As a result, students will not only get hands-on experience of how science works, but also acquire career-relevant quantitative skills (programming, statistics, data analysis). The course will also mentor students in finding PIs for further lab experiences afterwards.
