Research Opportunity

The SanGiovanni Laboratory team is seeking advanced undergraduate students to contribute meaningfully to research and scholarship projects leading to academic publications and grant proposals in genomics, nutrition and vision science. The mission of our laboratory is to advance knowledge on the ways by which nutrients and food components are detected and used to affect cellular function in the human retina and brain. We apply research methods in genomics, informatics, in vivo human imaging and human model systems to address our aim of developing rational clinical trial designs for discovery of effective nutrient-based therapies for conditions affecting vision, mood and cognition. Immediate opportunities now exist for bibliographic research and scientific writing projects to support work in major journals. Applicants must be willing to work well in teams and devote approximately 5 hours per week to our efforts. Experiences in our group will help team members to develop skills in scientific inference, writing and manuscript production. In some cases we may offer integrated projects in our omics, physiologic imaging or model systems research programs. Please contact Dr. Dawn Geiser for more information.
