This course combines insights from philosophy and the social sciences to examine how various features of work contribute to (or detract from) a happy, healthy, and fulfilling human life. Topics covered include the relationship between wealth and happiness, the concept of meaningful work, the ways in which capitalism and automation affect the pursuit of meaningful work, and the ethical aspects of choosing careers. Students will then use what they have learned to reflect on their own potential career choices and evaluate what careers may be most conducive to living well in the 21st century.
