The Southwestern Foundation Scholarship provides an award of $1,500 for each of the six semesters starting with the fall semester of the student’s sophomore/second year. Additionally, each student will receive an award of $6,000 to participate in the First Year Honors Trip between their first year and sophomore year. The students will all travel on the same program as a cohort.
This unique scholarship program is designed to encourage students to take in the whole university experience and graduate with a holistic, humanistic perspective and attitude. The program rewards adventuresome and inquisitive spirit and provides a welcoming environment that brings together scholars from across a variety of disciplines. In each of the six semesters, the scholars - as a cohort - are required to take a 1-credit interdisciplinary colloquium in the W.A. Franke Honors College.
The Southwestern Foundation Scholar will be a student who understands the need to enrich themself with interdisciplinary courses and embrace teamwork and dialog. The Scholar will be proactive, inquisitive, expressive, reflective, and open to new intellectual challenges.
Applicants must be
- enrolled at the W.A. Franke Honors College (30 credits) at time of application.
- must be a first-year student.
- must have an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher.
- Preference will be given to first-generation students.
