Students in the W.A. Franke Honors College who complete a University of Arizona semester-long study abroad experience will have the number of Honors credits needed towards graduation reduced by 6-units. The study abroad reduction can only be used for one semester program and is not applicable for multiple semester programs.

The credit reduction will take place after the study abroad experience is completed.  If the study abroad program offers University of Arizona Honors direct credits, the student would not be eligible for a reduction. The philosophy guiding this policy is that a semester-long study abroad is an extensive immersive experience which enhances a global mindset for interdisciplinary thinking and problem-solving.

Students who are abroad will be assessed the Honors Fee and will maintain access to their Honors benefits while abroad. Students studying abroad continue to benefit from Honors College resources, justifying the fee:

  1. Access to Resources and Opportunities: Students can access resources, newsletters, and participate in unique opportunities.
  2. Support from Staff: Honors College staff provide ongoing academic advising and support.
  3. Priority Registration: Students retain priority registration, ensuring they can enroll in required courses upon their return.
  4. Unit Reduction: Students receive a reduction in their honors unit requirement, acknowledging their international academic experience.

Charging the fee ensures students stay integrated within the Honors College, receive support, and progress towards graduating with honors.
