Submitting Your Thesis

Submission Requirements

Submit Your Honors Thesis

Due Date

Your honors thesis is due to the Franke Honors College no later than the last day of classes of your final semester of honors thesis units.

Final Draft

You should be submitting only the final draft of your honors thesis. We do not accept rough drafts that still require editing.

PDF Format

Your honors thesis must be uploaded as a single PDF document.
Are you having trouble combining PDF documents?

What to Include In Your Submission

Your submission must include the following components in the following order:

  • Title Page - View the Title Page formatting guide and template to see the correct format for the title page. No signatures on your title page. If there is a signature, you will be asked to resubmit

  • Abstract - The abstract should be roughly 200 words, providing a summary of your work. When writing an abstract, consider: What would you want someone to know if they saw the title of your work and they were wondering whether your project might be helpful to them? It's not about spoiling the ending so much as describing the process and the contents. If your honors thesis is of anartistic or creative nature, give your audience some context about your project and addressing your motivation, influences, goals, etc.
You can find further information on writing an abstract here if you need some ideas.

  • File Name-  Make the file name your last name(s), first initial of your first name.
EXAMPLE: If Wilma Wildcat is submitting her honors thesis, her file name would be WildcatW.pdf

  • Summary of group work* - If your honors thesis is a group project, you will need to list each group member and a summary of the contribution of each person to the honors thesis project. *If your honors thesis is not a group project, you can skip this.

  • Honors Thesis - The body of your honors thesis can be in any format and page length you and your mentor have decided is appropriate. If you have questions about the formatting or page length requirements for your honors thesis project, please contact your mentor. Make sure you include all references used.

Faculty Thesis Mentor Approval

Once you submit your honors thesis, there will be an email automatically sent to your Faculty Thesis Mentor, asking them to review your submission and give it their official approval. Once they approve your submission electronically, you will receive a confirmation email that your work has been approved. The Franke Honors College then considers your honors thesis complete, and the requirement is satisfied provided that a passing grade is earned for all semesters of honors thesis units.

Release to Honors Thesis Repository

When you submit your Honors Thesis, you will have the option to release your work to the University of Arizona Libraries Honors Thesis Repository. The Honors Thesis Repository is a publicly available and permanent online repository.

Not all honors theses should be shared in the repository; this includes theses that include proprietary content (such as that protected by NDAs), copyrighted materials, and culturally sensitive information. Examples include:

  • proprietary information from companies
  • research from campus labs that is not ready to be published
  • photographs / images that are copyrighted by others (need permissions to publish)
  • some human subjects research / culturally sensitive data

Your Faculty Thesis Mentor will have to approve the release of your honors thesis to the Honors Thesis Repository, so please discuss this option with them prior to submission.

Releasing your honors thesis to the repository is OPTIONAL.
