UA Professor of Pediatrics Jeffrey Rein will report on his work in global health which includes his recent experiences as a hospitalist pediatrician in Kenya, Chad, and the Central African Republic.  He will reflect on the dismantling of USAID by the Trump administration and it's implications for the health and well being of women and children in Africa.

In these highly conflicted times, Hank Willis Thomas in his LOVERULES exhibit at the UA Museum of Art encourages us to be visionary, not reactionary. We have taken inspiration from his words and images and present to you our own: original folktales for today and tomorrow, student work accomplished in Prof. Patrick Baliani’s W.A. Franke Honors College current seminar, “Legends in the Landscapes.”

Join us for an evening of cultural exchange and insightful conversations at the Fulbright Reception, held in the vibrant ambiance of the Honors Village courtyard. This special event will feature distinguished guests, including Karoly Jokay from the Hungarian-American Fulbright Commission, as well as a dynamic panel comprising Fulbright recipients from the U.S. Student Program, U.S. Scholar Program, and Specialist Program.

Join us for a discussion focused on ethical engagement with unhoused community. The session will include students, faculty, and stakeholders including representatives from local government, health care, law enforcement, and non-profits.

In this short talk, Dr. Eric Plemons will introduce his research as a medical anthropologist studying the politics and practice of sex and gender altering surgery. Through work with specialist clinicians and the people who seek their services, he studies the role of surgical medicine in materializing contested concepts of sex, gender, and transgender. He'll talk about his work on facial feminization surgery, surgical capacity for transgender genital reconstruction, and his current book project on uterine transplant.

With the HEAP application deadline quickly approaching on February 21, 2025, the current HEAP cohort is organizing office hours to assist students with their application questions. These sessions are an excellent opportunity to gain insight into the Franke Honors Early Assurance Programs and learn about the experiences of current HEAP students.
