In this one-credit Honors Seminar, students will explore how children’s literature can inspire wonder while revealing the science behind the experience of awe. Drawing on picture books, middle-grade and young adult literature, psychology, and neuroscience, students will examine how stories foster curiosity, empathy, resilience, creativity, and a deeper connection to both the natural world and one another. Through close reading, discussion, reflective writing, and experiential learning – including observation activities, campus and community explorations, creative responses, and moments of intentional reflection - students will investigate how awe influences well-being, learning, and human relationships from our earliest days.
