Is morality objective? Do the ends justify the means? What is the relationship between morality and religion? Students in this course will explore questions like these through reading and analyzing philosophical arguments about the nature of morality. The class will explore with different sides of particular moral debates on controversial issues like abortion, the ethics of immigration or genetic enhancement, and also more general topics like traditional moral theories, the objectivity of morality and the nature of moral responsibility. This course aims to help students become more reflective and open-minded about morality, while also providing them with the skills to successfully defend their own moral beliefs.
This course is a hybrid course which means it will meet in-person and online. The work and content of the course will not only be done in just 7 weeks but will also satisfy the Tier 1 General Education requirement. We advise you to strongly consider enrolling in this section today!
