Have you participated in scouting to its highest degree? Interested in water conservation? Is global health part of your academic plan? Below are some scholarships based on your interests.

This section contains information on two awards, the Andria Ligas Memorial Scholarship and the Kissling Spirit of Inquiry Scholarship.

Andria Ligas Memorial Scholarship

Andria Ligas enjoyed life. She lived it as a quest, a challenge and an adventure of the mind, spirit, and body. A stellar student with a penchant for languages, a triathlete, a marathon runner, an artist, a rock climber, and a seasoned traveler, Andria never wasted time – every moment had its purpose. This scholarship award has been designed to honor her memory and her spirit.

  • Eligibility: Financial Need, FASFA Required, Outstanding Achievement in at least two areas: Arts, Foreign Language, Linguistics, Triathlon/Cross Country
  • Award Amount: $800

Kissling Spirit of Inquiry Scholarship

A scholarship to cultivate in Franke Honors students a spirit of inquiry and a passion for learning.

When associate dean Richard Kissling retired, this scholarship was set up in his honor. Dr. Kissling taught a course called the “Spirit of Inquiry” for many years. This course introduced Honors students to professionals with great passion for their work and the deep curiosity that led such people to undertake their intellectual and professional paths. The W.A. Franke Honors College awards this scholarship to Franke Honors students with financial need who best embody the spirit of inquiry Dr. Kissling fostered in his course.

  • Eligibility: Embody the spirit of inquiry: intellectual curiosity and passion for an intended career and life path. Preference for financial need.

Lenkin Honors Scholarship (Global Health and/or Water Conservation)

Heather Henricks Lenkin is a two-time alumna of the Honors College – in Architecture and Landscape Architecture. She is passionate about helping students to find their paths, and supporting them along the way, as she was supported.

The Heather Henricks Lenkin Endowed Honors Scholarships supports W.A. Franke Honors College students studying either Global Health or Water Conservation, or who are enrolled in a program in either of these fields. Students must be enrolled in the Franke Honors College with a minimum 3.5 GPA, and recipients may reapply on an annual basis during their undergraduate careers, as long as they remain in the Franke Honors College and maintain a 3.5 GPA.

  • Eligibility: Studying Global Health/water conservation, GPA of 3.5 or higher, Franke Honors student
  • Award Amount: $1000

Denise Blommel and Donald Doerres

Blommel and Doerres Scholarship for Scouts

If you are the recipient of the Girl Scouts Gold Award or have reached the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America/Scouts BSA, this is a scholarship opportunity for you. Honors College Alumna Denise Blommel and her husband, Donald Doerres, have created the Blommel-Doerres Honors Scholarship for Scouts. This merit-based award is open to Franke Honors students who have achieved the above ranks in Scouting, and who exhibit leadership qualities. 

  • Eligibility: Franke Honors students who have achieved the Girl Scout Gold Award or Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America / Scouts BSA with unmet financial need (FAFSA required), cumulative Arizona GPA of 3.40 or higher, 15 or more Arizona credits completed.
  • Award Amount: $1,000

Elizabeth Read Taylor Scholarship

The Elizabeth Read Taylor Honors Scholarship was established to assist W.A Franke Honors students with financial need who are affiliated with the DRC (Disability Resource Center) with the costs of their tuition, fees, books and other educational expenses.  Students must have a FAFSA on file to apply and demonstrate unmet need.  Students who have received the Elizabeth Read Taylor scholarship previously may apply again as long as they meet the criteria.

  • Eligibility: Franke Honors student affiliated with the DRC with unmet financial need (FAFSA required), cumulative Arizona GPA of 3.40 or higher, 15 or more Arizona credits completed.
  • Award Amount: $1500
