Dr. Victor Breitberg is a cultural anthropologist whose teaching is focused on the social, cultural, and historical dimensions of science, technology, and medicine. In this session of the HHV Speaker Series, Dr. Braitberg will look at current issues affecting the health and cultural sphere of our community.
This talk grows out of a trip to France this summer, where Dr. Breitberg began developing a study-abroad course for the Health and Human Values minor on the history of medicine. There, he noticed an intriguing difference between medical humanities in France and in the United States.
The talk will offer some thoughts on what a comparative study of medical humanities might reveal about how different societies critically assess health, medicine, and the human condition in their specific national contexts.
